Bethany History

1950 - 1975 50th Anniversary - United Church of Canada

In 1975 a new fence was put up around the Ponsonby Cemetery. It was paid for by Nichol Township and Wellington County and the labour was done by members of our congregation.

In 1975 we celebrated out 50th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada by special meetings, donations and activities in the various organizations of Bethany and joined Elora in their celebrations.

Many new things were in store for 1976. We had a register in the front vestibule for guests to sign; a plaque in memory of David Fasken; a new silver challice; new flower beds at the front of the church; new sidewalks up to the front door; and new front doors and a Bethany sign done in stonework. The ladies of the congregation have contributed greatly too with new choir gowns, new upholstery, church symbol display, altar cloth and antependium.
